Case Study of Monitored Natural Attenuation Remediation of Xylene in Groundwater
I did my PhD thesis about MNA remediation of groundwater contamination in 2008th - what can I do better in 2019th?
In this presentation Dragan Kaludjerovic will show you his PhD thesis from 2008 which is related to remediation of contaminated groundwater from 45 tonne spill of xylene at railway station. After source removal as a remediation method, MNA (Monitored Natural Attenuation) was applied and software used to simulate and predict longevity was RT3D - popular software at that time.
Now, in 2019, the question arises, what can be done better?
First, in webinar, the case study will be described and then "new" technique pilot point (highly parameterized inversion with regularization) application in groundwater flow and transport calibration will be shown. Uncertainty analysis using Null Space Monte Carlo method with PEST is logical next step.
Second, new software that replaced RT3D will be mentioned shortly (MT3D USGS) and multilevel sampling in groundwater will be covered.
If anything seems unclear or you just have a question, then
please let me know - I will get back to you as soon as possible! Again,
thank you for joining me on this presentation about MNA remediation
